The University of Tennessee Extension supports and promotes programs for families in Jefferson County. Educational programs focus on strengthening individuals, families and communities by addressing critical issues and needs, such as teaching parenting skills, improving nutrition and health, managing family finances, addressing child care needs, and others.

We offer Parenting Apart: Effective Co-Parenting education classes for parents going through divorce. The purpose of the class is to help divorcing parents learn how to work together to reduce the effects of divorce that can be placed on children. Parenting Apart: Effective Co-Parenting classes are to educate parents about the impact of divorce, separation and conflict on their children and to offer concrete actions that parents can take to help their children. This class meets the Tennessee State law requirements for parent education required by law before obtaining a divorce.
There are six established adult Family Community Education (FCE) Clubs in Jefferson County who meet on a monthly basis, not only to study home and community issues, but also work to improve their homes and communities. These clubs help nursing homes, volunteer fire departments, families in need, and any worthwhile endeavor within their community.
There is a monthly newsletter dealing with home and community information as well as a weekly news article and radio broadcast in the local newspaper.
The Extension Service offers its programs to all eligible persons regardless of race, color, sex, age, religion, national origin, veteran status or disability and is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

The class will be taught in one four-hour session.
